Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS)
Financed by community donors, TCAPS officially became the host of Generations Ahead on January 22, 2018. www.tcaps.net
The program’s operating space has actually been located at Traverse City High School since 2004. Many program clients have long attended the alternative high school, which has also financially supported and operated a day care center there for the infants and toddlers of students completing their degrees.
After the Women’s Resource Center Board announced the program needed a new sponsor, Traverse City Public Schools agreed to host the program on a three-year interim basis if sufficient resources could be secured. In fall 2017, a group of community philanthropists made a shared commitment to personally fund a redesigned, multifaceted program for three years while long term sources of support are identified.
Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation
The Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation is serving as the philanthropic partner for Generations Ahead during this three-year interim period. Community donors supporting the program make their tax deductible gifts to the Community Foundation. Traverse City Area Public Schools then receives program operating grants from the Community Foundation, made possible by donor funds. www.gtrcf.org
Rotary Charities of Traverse City
Throughout the two-year process, Rotary Charities of Traverse City provided critical leadership to redesign, transition and refinance the Generations Ahead Program. Rotary Charities awarded a planning grant to the WRC to hire a consultant in fall 2016 to adapt the program, find it a new home and strengthen collaboration with organizations providing services to young parents and children. Rotary Charities provided subsequent funding for consultant support during the program’s transition to TCAPS and its initial implementation.
Michigan Community Service Commission
The Michigan Community Service Commission (MCSC) has awarded Generations Ahead a three-year, $10,000 a year grant through the Volunteer Engagement Initiative. This support is funding the development of this website and other volunteer recruitment materials and strengthening our capacity to incorporate best practices to recruit and properly manage more community volunteers. www.michigan.gov/mcsc
